Fibres

Fibres Product Overview

Multichem manufactures steel fibres and polypropylene fibres, offering advanced reinforcement solutions for concrete applications. Steel fibres serve as a replacement for light reinforcement in slabs-on-grade, shotcrete, and precast concrete, while microfine fibres help control early-age cracking and drying shrinkage.

Applications include:

  • Flat slabs where site supervision for early-age curing is not feasible
  • Shotcrete linings and embankments where early-age curing is challenging
  • Precast and slip-formed shapes (e.g., kerbs) that require demoulding while green, aiding shape control and reducing plastic cracking
  • Tunnel linings and structural concrete requiring enhanced durability and crack resistance

Structural synthetic fibres are large-diameter (approx. 1mm) polypropylene fibres that are highly deformed to increase mechanical bond. Normally dosed at 5–15 kg/m³, they provide high ductility, particularly at high deflection.

Applications include:

  • Economic and higher-performing than steel fibre in shotcrete linings in mines where high deflections are a requirement.
  • Where cracks might lead to rusting of steel fibres, structural synthetic can be used. At high deflections, synthetics may prove more economical; at low deflections, they may be more expensive.

Fibres Products

Fibrecon Mop and Fib are polypropylene fibres used in concrete and plaster for drying shrinkage and hardened shrinkage crack control.

Fibrecon SteelPro fibres are used for slabs on grade, shotcrete, and precast concrete.

Multichem Product

Fibrecon Cloth/Fabrics are used for adding tensile strength to waterproofing coatings.

Fibrecon®-Mono is a chemically inert, non-corrosive polypropylene fibre that disperses instantly in the mix. It enhances tensile and compressive strength, minimizes drying shrinkage cracks, reduces permeability, and improves durability. It also increases mix yield, reduces construction joints, and minimizes steel reinforcement in industrial floors. Compatible with all OPC/PPC types, it ensures watertight, long-lasting structures.
